The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan’s free PreK program for eligible four-year-olds. Ranked #1 in the U.S., it’s a safe place where children learn how to get along with others, share, take turns, and make friends. Math, reading, and thinking skills are taught every day through fun, hands-on activities. GSRP will help make sure your child is ready for kindergarten and beyond.
For the 2025-26 school year, all families have access to free PreK through the Great Start Readiness Program, with priority given to those who need it most. There are no current income guidelines for GSRP. Income is used to determine when your child can enroll in a program. All age-eligible children can qualify for GSRP.

Phase 1: Complete the online application in MiECC and upload the required documents (proof of income, address, and a copy of the child's birth certificate).
Once a care coordinator verifies documents, they will send a referral to your preferred program.
Phase 2: The program will contact you with the next steps for enrollment and provide you with a start date.
